MOTHER’S DAY

Mother’s day is a day to celebrate and honour mothers and motherhood. This day honours the creator of life and her significance in our society. Mothers have been revered across cultures, be it Greek, Christian or Hindu, as nourisher of life. The modern day event of mother’s day was marked by Anna Jarvis in 1908 in United States.

What we need to keep in mind is that loving our mothers and respecting motherhood at large need not be limited to a single day. Also, the day is being eclipsed by extensive commercialisation characterised by sales, overprized gifts and fancy dinners. Whereas Mother’s Day is all about showing love, regard and most importantly gratitude for all that our mothers do.

Here are some simple ways to do so during these lockdown times.

How about giving your mother a day off from her apparent living room- the kitchen. Cooking a nice meal is one of the sweetest gestures that goes a long way. If you are a first timer like me, cooking videos on Instagram and YouTube will be at your aid.

A handmade card or a handwritten letter will be loved. Those typed words on screen, how much ever lovely, lack the personal touch of something that you create with your own hands, using your own creativity, Just write down what goes on in your heart and it will melt hers for sure.

Get her something she’s always wanted. No, I am not talking about a fancy diamond but the little things that make her smile. Trimming your untidy tresses, waking up on time, cleaning your room are some of the sure shots to make her happy.

HUG, a nice warm hug (should have topped the list). Walk up to her and embrace that one person who would love you unconditionally no matter what. Hugs are considered one of the most pleasant ways of showing one’s affection, and trust me on that, one won’t be enough. How about a peck on the cheek as well? (don’t think, just go for it!)

Last but not the least, the best gift would be if you don’t do the above things merely for a single day but continue it for the rest of your life.

Love, cherish and respect mother every day.

Each day, Mother’s Day.
