WORLD HEALTH DAY
‘Health is Wealth’- there’s a reason why the age-old proverb still holds ground and will continue to do so forever.
World Health Organisation (WHO) marks 7th April as the ‘World Health Day’ with this year’s theme being ‘building a fairer and healthier world’. The ongoing pandemic clearly highlighted the gruesome reality of unequal healthcare across the globe where a few have access to world class healthcare and the rest are devoid of even the basic healthcare requirements. This can only be resolved through better policies, no corruption and most importantly coming together as one in compassion.
The pandemic also reminded us of the unparalleled significance and courage of healthcare workers throughout the world. Their relentless effort abled the world to get vaccinated against the deadly virus.
World Health Day, once again, reminds us of the importance of mental health along with physical wellbeing. Stress, depression and anxiety are emerging as the leading cause of deaths all over. According to WHO, more than 264 million people suffer from depression. What one needs to remember is that its very important to seek medical help in case of mental discomfort. The society at large needs to destigmatise and normalise mental illness as well as the need for its treatment, as much as any other bodily ailment.
So, remember to listen to your body. Make sure to get enough physical activity, sleep and healthy eating, and if you’re ever in doubt, do not hesitate to seek professional help.
