Male Dominance continues in our Film Industry

Our Indian society has always been a patriarchal one, it has always been a male dominated society. Yes, with time, changes have been observed from the early era to now. But, even in this modern time, we are not living in a equal society. The male dominance is yet prevalent in most of the section of the society. Same dominance can be seen in our Indian film industry, Bollywood. The industry consisting of numerous independent talented people is still not independent of their own prevalent thoughts and culture.

This male dominance can be seen in bollywood in it's famous AWARD SHOWS, the time of being reward. Most of the times it can be seen that for the same genre of movies the awards are flooded with male actors names only, but very rare names of the female actresses.

It can be seeen firstly in the portrayal of the bollywood actresses. Since time, to even now, the actresses have always been there in a side role of the actor, they are rarely seen in the main lead in any film. The main story of the movies mainly revolves around the lead hero, supported by his heroine. Mostly the women or the actresses are played as object of sexual desires, for example the illogical presence of Item songs in the Indian movies like, "Chhamma Chhamma" in "China Gate".

Other than this women have been portrayed as damsel in distress, and the men are portrayed as their savior. Who are obviously more powerful than men, and hence more righteous over the women. From the movies like Sholay, to the movie Gadar, to the number of movies like this. Men have always been portrayed more powerful. Hence, providing numerous example of a male dominating industry.

Most of the actresses either marry or they need to shift their careers to some other field in their thirty's because they are not offered good scripts anymore. If 43 years old Amir Khan can play a role of 23 years old college boy in '3 Idiots', then the same role can be played by a actress in her forty's. But, this aged women in film industries are offered either some foolish scripts or no scripts at all, which is the reason they marry or change their careers. We can consider a huge talented actress like Madhuri Dixit Nene, for the same. She certainly dropped her career, married and now she isn't seen in movie often. Lots of such example can be seen in bollywood where we can have a clear look of male dominance.
