Feel Trendy ! Feel Authentic (Shweta Aggarwal - Fashion Designer)

One-on-One Dialogue

Q 1. WHAT SPARKED YOUR INTEREST IN FASHION

I won’t be wrong if  I’ll say i was born with it. My interest in fashion began as a child. When I was very young, maybe seven years old I remember dressing up for different events at school and I took pride in having the best outfit, or at least making the biggest effort made me really happy at that time.

I pursued formal education in fashion and took training under couple of renowned Fashion Designers. For 3 straight years, I assisted them for Lakme Fashion Week.

Q 2. WHAT ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS FOR YOU WHEN DESIGNING A COLLECTION EACH SEASON?

BALANCE. I strive to make sure that my each collection should have balance and harmony. I believe that the outfits I design has to share values of simplified sophistication, class and attainable luxury. I analyze the ongoing trends in the market to get the understanding of what is most loved by the people and then design exceptional outfits for my clients. In addition to this, i make sure that anyone wearing our label should stand out of the pack with their style.

Q 3. WHAT’S THE BIGGEST MISCONCEPTION THAT INDIAN WOMEN HAVE ABOUT FASHION?

The biggest misconception is that if you are dressed in branded clothes from top to bottom you are fashionable. No, you are not. One should have his/her own style And while deciding the right style for you, You need to ask yourself what kind of image you want to project and what makes you feel the most confident. This will help you find your own personal style... And like the world knows, it is very important to be comfortable in your own skin. No matter what outfit you wear, make sure you rock it!

Q 4. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE US IN DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN LIFE, IN YOUR CASE WHO WAS THAT INSPIRATION?

Each person from whom I get motivate and get to enhance my virtues for life, is inspirational for me. The list is long like:

APJ Abdul Kalam who taught us to dream and prodded to follow it until it is achieved, who taught us “ dreams are not something that we see while we sleep rather something that won’t let us sleep”.

Mary Kom an Indian Olympic boxer who showcases that being a mother doesn’t stop a woman from achieving her dreams. Motherhood should not cripple you, it should make you stronger.

-bollywood celebrity: priyanka chopra. I admire her for her perseverance which made her always choose the route which her contemporaries are not riding on.

-And most inspiring person in my life is my father, who was known to have foresight which is rare. Which is why he could do something totally different from what his contemporaries were doing at that time. I would love to have that while I design.

Q 5. What do you think are the keys to professional and business success for women in India?

Always choose a field which you love doing. If you will love your work then that passion will show in your product/service.

We are in 21st century where working women are doing wonders .sadly there are still some areas in India where women are faced with various challenges when they wish to start working. But, I would please urge each one of them to believe in themselves and go for it. The key to success lies in your happiness.
