Reflection is perfection : Makeup Artist Gouri Kapur
1. How did you get your start in the industry? Also, how did you learn the trade?
I started this trade when make up artists were just about getting to be known in the industry. In Bombay they were called dadas and the transition to being called official make up artists was still very new, women weren't allowed to work in the film industry. In bangalore it was very very new.
I started my career by meeting a photographer at a book store who I knew briefly as he lived down our lane, and had mentioned to him that I was going to Bombay to learn this art and he had mentioned we must work together as he was into portfolios,
I started my career charging 500 Rs a face.
You have to keep working very hard to get better at what you do, plus you are in a freelance mode, so it's very easy to let go if you leave your discipline on working towards being better,
So the biggest challenge and reward is knowing you getting better than you were yesterday.
3. What three makeup items should no woman leave home without?
CC cream, a lipstick, and a mascara.
Sometimes basics are the best.

4. How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup artists?
I prefer classy, edgy, Depending on the personality of the client, fusion, yet vintage inspired whenever I get the chance to.
My signature look is an extension of me.
Make up to me should become a part of the clients personality.
If any ones make up stands out I feel the focus shifts.
I m guessing it's just my style and how my brain is wired that sets me apart.
I admire lots of artists out there.
But a few who have managed to make a mark with talent and effortless perfection that has grown with years.
Scott Barnes.
Mario Dedivanovic
And some fabulous artists for conceptual make up art, which I love experimenting with especially for my academic shoots.
As we really push our boundaries when you do something that's aesthetic and out of the box.
There is some phenomenal talent out there and thanks to social media we now have access to see real talent.
